Recently I watched an episode of Psych, titled “Ferry Tale”.

In this episode the character Gus (Dule Hill) is given a glass of the Mexican drink Horchata. He falls in love with its sweet taste and can’t stop sipping it.

It reminded me of a drink my childhood friend Sylvia’s mom would give us after a day of playing in the summer sun. She called it “My Horchata” and gave my mom the recipe because I loved it so much.

Here is Sylvia’s mom’s recipe of this delicious drink.

2 cups of uncooked white rice, coarsely grounded

8 cups water

1/2 cup sugar

5 cinnamon sticks

2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon

2 cups milk

1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk

2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

I had the wonderful opportunity of going to Harry’s Bar in Venice last spring. Naturally, I tasted the worlds best tasting Bellini. The hype of having one of Harry’s famous Bellini did not disappoint. I went back every night I was in Venice and had a Bellini. I highly recommend this drink!

3 oz. peaches

Dash lemon juice

Maraschino liqueur

Prosecco (substitute Champagne)

Clueless about beers? I am!

One of my favorite places to go to is the Beer Garden in Williamsburg. I like the atmosphere a lot, and even though I am not a big beer drinker, it is a great place to hang out with friends and try something different. Also if you bring your date here, it is sure to score points with your man.I have never heard a complaint about this place!

There are two types of beers – lagers and ales. Lagers are pale, dry, light and refreshing. Ales are robust, loaded with fruity and spicy flavors, and higher in alcohol content than lagers. I always end up order a type of Ale. To make the best selection at your party, below are different types of lagers and ales and the foods they go best with.

Dark Lager

Tastes like: flavored with roasted barley or malt, it tastes rich, malty and sweet.

Goes best with: Roast chicken or sausage dishes.
